Jacob’s Journey

Jacob came to us on May 12th 2018; a sweet shy dog with a limp and a wound on his leg that caused concern. We promptly got him to a vet where it was confirmed that he was suffering from an old fracture, and when blood work was done we saw that Jacob faced an even bigger challenge: heartworm.

Heartworm is a serious disease that can be deadly to an animal and the road to recovery is not a short one. With this diagnosis Jacob would be unable to have any medical work done on his leg. We immediately enrolled him into our Project Patchwork program that funds the extreme medical attention some animals need and deserve. His long journey would require regular medications and vet check-ups to monitor the disease and continue to treat his injured leg.

Almost two years later, after months of treatment, 5 heartworm tests and an incredible foster family to help keep him on track, we are thrilled to announce that Jacob is now officially heartworm free!! As the time has passed, Jacob’s adapted to his leg and now moves comfortably with no surgery necessary. We were able to finalize the adoption papers with his wonderful foster family and now Jacob can go home for good a healthy boy.

Often our shelter may only be involved in an animal’s life for a very short time; others like Jacob, become month or even year-long endeavors. However, no matter how long their stay is one thing remains the same: that we always strive for the best outcome of animal that comes through our doors and we will work as hard as we can to give them a second chance.

By supporting our Project Patchwork program, you can directly contribute to changing the lives of these animals. Donate today and make a difference to animals in need.
