Volunteer

Volunteers are such an integral part of our life-saving work at the Brant County SPCA. To volunteer at the Brant County SPCA you must:

  • Be 15 years of age of older
  • Complete a Volunteer Application
  • Submit a current Criminal Record Check and Judicial Matters Check – For Volunteers (CRJMC) to be renewed every two years (existing Vulnerable Sectors Checks/Judicial Matters Checks are also accepted)
  • Submit signed onboarding documents 
  • Kennel Assistant Volunteers and Administrative Volunteers will have additional training prior to starting

Please Note: Volunteers 15-18 will require guardian sign off and are only permitted to volunteer in the following: small pet buddies, cat buddies, read and relax, along with some event opportunities. 

Volunteer Opportunities

Dog Walking 

This involves walking and socializing dogs that come into our care to ensure our shelter animals are happy and healthy. Volunteers should enjoy the company of dogs both young and old and possess the ability to walk and maintain control of the animal at all times.

Cat Buddy

This involves socializing and grooming cats that come into our care to ensure our shelter animals are happy and healthy. Volunteers should enjoy the company of cats both young and old and not suffer from cat allergies.

Small Pet Buddy

This involves socializing and grooming the small pets in our care. Volunteers should enjoy the company of small pets both young and old and not suffer from small pet allergies.

Read and Relax

This involves reading to the dogs and cats in our care in a quiet setting in order to reduce our shelter animals degree of stress. Volunteer must be comfortable around dogs and cats and be available during regular shelter hours.

Events

We need help with a variety of special events. Volunteers need to be high energy, good communicators, creative, flexible, and have the ability to multi-task and think on their feet.

Kennel Assistant

This role will be responsible for assisting our staff with providing nutrition, basic care and enrichment to animals. They will also be responsible for sweeping & mopping in their assigned area and refilling stocked areas as needed. Other duties such as washing dishes, toys and doing laundry are included as well. Additional training will be provided.

 

Facilities

Do you work in a trade or enjoy lawn maintenance? We are always looking for volunteers who are handy and willing to help us with an assortment of tasks around the shelter. From shovelling snow to mowing the lawn, tidying the gardens or fixing a door handle!

 

Administrative Assistant – CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE

We are currently looking for volunteers to assist us with some administrative work. This could include data entry, processing adoptions and assisting with phone calls at the shelter. Additional training for this position will be provided.
