Charlie and Luna
(aka Frank and Myrr)

...

Good Morning, Please find attached a picture of kittens that we adopted from your shelter at Xmas time.
They were named Frank and Myrr, but have settled into our home very nicely as Charlie and Luna!
Their surrogate mother stepped in with no issues...

Thanks for providing us such incredible additions to our family!!

Ollie (aka Rocky)

...

Hi all....just wanted to send a quick note to update Rocky AKA Ollie now.
He has settled into our homes and our lives with such ease. It's like he has always been with us.
As you can see from the pics he is getting along great with our three cats. That's Dexter our oldest cat (14yrs) sharing Ollie's bed.
Although we only just adopted Ollie a few weeks ago he is going to be in our hearts and our home for a very long time.
This past summer we lost the second of our two long time companions. Our Oddie was going into his 18th yr and the year before our Molly was going into her 13th yr.
I never thought I could have another dog as it was so hard losing Oddie and Molly, but little Ollie has surpassed my expectations
and we are just in love once again. He is great around our 3 month old grandson, has done well over the holiday hussle bussle ,
seems great around all people we have encountered and held his own with the "big boys" at the dog park.
His vet check went good, although I don't think it will be his fav place, but he sure liked the doctor and the people there and of course the treats.
So for now this is a mini update to Ollie's new life and as we grow as a family I will post again.
Thanks again for letting us adopt such a great little guy.

P.S He loves car rides so we'll take a buzz down to see you all some time.

Igor (nee Comet)

..

Good Morning Brantford Spca,

We adopted IGOR,(nee Comet),on Jan.2 2010, from Petsmart in Ancaster.
He has adjusted very well to our family. He sleeps with the kids (when he sleeps, he's got a middle of the night routine).
He is extremely well behaved. He didnt attack the Christmas tree or ornaments and plays 'ball" with our 8 year old.
He is eating healthy and everything seems to be regular. He has a curiosity towards our parrots but we keep them seperated from him for obvious reasons,
and besides, they go bananas 'when he peeks in their room when I am in there feeding them.
All in all, he has become a part of the family and keeps everbody entertained.

Thanks!

Wilbur

..

Hi Brantford SPCA This is just a quick update on our Wilbur.
This was his 3rd Christmas with us as we adopted him from Pet Smart in Ancaster the end of July 2007.
They were helping you find homes for these little fur balls. The thrill of him and the joy of him in our lives has not diminished one bit in all this time.
He is still full of mischief with a mind of his own, which is perfectly fine with us.
We live in an apartment and Wilbur is known by every person on our floor as we go for walks to-gether, people cannot get over the fact that he walks beside
me on our walks and he knows excactly which door is his. He also expects a treat when we enter the door from his Dad.
He also has started something new which has us almost rolling on the floor laughing. Wilbur has decided that when anyone in the house uses the toilet that
he has to jump on the seat and scratch it as if to cover up whatever was put there. The only thing that we can think of is that Wilburs litter is in the den
and whenever he uses it we clean the litter box because of it being near us, He is doing the same for us I think.
He still receives his Chrismas flowers from a friends that does arrangements, however this year he did not re-arrange them as he has other years,
thankfully our friend is animal foolish and thinks that this is great. He would just check them out. Will keep updating you from time to time as out little man becomes an adult,
and thanks to all of you for caring for him for the 4months that you had him we just want to let you know
your work has given us such great joy and we wouldn't know what to do without him.

Seeley and Malcolm (aka Dante and Sammy)

....

Dear Brant SPCA, Almost a year ago we lost our elderly ailing cat.
We took some time to get over that but knew we would adopt another. We firmly decided on two cats, no kittens.
It ended rather differently. In June a litter of sensational kittens was at our local Petsmart (in Ancaster) and we dropped in on an impulse.
Within minutes we were holding purring three-month old kittens and adopted two of them. At that time they were called Dante and Sammy.
We changed those names to Seeley and Malcolm. From the first day home they were personable, goofy, into everything, and almost too adorable to be true.
They made us laugh a dozen times a day and showed us daily how smart they are. They did absolutely everything together: eating, drinking, sleeping, grooming.
We expected that. We were not quite prepared for synchronized pooping! They did that too. They purred when petted, loved to be held.
Whoever fostered these kittens did an amazing job of socializing them. A few weeks later our married daughter was very sick in the hospital.
In all the worry of that long week, our loving kittens reminded us that love comes on four feet as well as two.
We believe we are the luckiest cat parents ever and look forward every day to our furry family.

A donation went in today. We wanted you to know why.

Thanks, Judith & Dave Hayman

Charlie

..

Just a note to let you know that Charlie (previously known as Christopher) is quite happy in his new home. It has been six months since he was resued.
He and his sister, Layla, wrestle all the time have 3 walks a day and sit in the front window together to rest.
He likes the grandchildren and sits on Daddy's knee in the evening.
All of the neighbours say "hi"to him and are happy to see he has had a great outcome from his nasty start in life.
If you recall, Charlie was a run away, on a cold and raining night in April, soaking wet and afraid and very badly matted with one shaver line down his back.
(Apparently his previous owner tried to get the tremendous mats off of him.)
Everyone on our street rallied to get him to safety.
He was lucky to have a facilty and volunteers that could help him.
He was easily housetrained and has overcome his fear of being left outside,(as long as Layla goes out with him).

Happy Holiday's to everyone at the shelter.

Brady

....

...

Hi there, I just wanted to update you guys on how Brady is doing. He has had a pretty eventful summer. He was up north twice to my parents cottage, went for his first boat ride which he really liked, went for lots of car rides and probably his most exciting thing was that he now lives on a farm with us. We bought a farm this summer with 50 acres and he LOVES it. He is so happy, his tail never stops wagging.

He has really become quite a spoiled rotten dog (which he deserves). He is now allowed to get up on the couch as long as his blanket is on there and let me tell you he thinks he is KING when this happens. He loves to stretch out and hog the couch with his head up on the arm rest or in our laps. He still stays in his kennel at night and during the day but I get to get home every lunch hour to spend time with him. He is becoming better with meeting new people, still a little apprehensive but much better overall. I was dog sitting my dad's dog this fall for a week and he loved that. The two of them got along great, then we went back up north to help close up the cottage and it was like he found his long lost best friend, they never left each others side all weekend. He got to play in the water this fall up north as well, I think that was a new experience for him, he loved to stick his head under and bob for rocks. He was totally exhausted by the end of the day.

He is now going outside without a leash and listens pretty good, he has his moments where he gets caught up in the outdoors but overall he is great, he loves to go to the back of the farm and he chases the ATV to the back like it is a race and loves to nose around back there. He looks beautiful, his coat shines, it helps that he loves to be brushed, he loves playing with his toys and still has the ball you guys gave him when he left the shelter (and yes it is his favorite). All you have to say to him is "Mr. B, where is your ball?" and he goes looking all over the house for it and will bring it back every time. He has become really good at shaking paw and sitting and waiting for his food. I hope he is as happy with us as we are with him!

It has been a great fit! I just want to reinforce to you guys what a great job you do. It is evident that you guys love and nurture each animal that you come into contact with. We as a community are so lucky to have people that look after our animals the way you guys do and make them adoptable so that we can have great animals to love.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Laura-Lynn, Wes, and of course, Brady!

Cain and Able

....

We are so happy to have found the purrrrfect additions to our family! Cain and Able are having a great time exploring their new home and have settled in just fine. Able is the chatty one and loves the attention. Cain is a bit more reserved and has picked our daughter as his companion, he sleeps cuddled up with her each night. We can’t thank the Brantford SPCA enough for bringing these two mischievous boys into our lives!

Penny Update

Penny was the second cat we had adopted from the shelter. Finnigan (success story on line) was the other one. Penny is doing very well. She no longer runs to see if her food/water dish is still there. She's discovered the cat napper is for her use and has claimed it as hers, thus leaving our Cecil to sleep in his basket with his blanet. She has many of the traits that our Shadow used to have which is one of the reasons I selected her. The shelter gave her her name and after all this time, she is finally realizing, hey, that's me. She's a typical cat. Call her and she'll take a message and get back to you. When I know how to upload photos, I'll post them. Thanks to the shelter for looking after her and to the people who surrendered her for whatever reason.

PS. I adore the bunny pictures. My husband brought me home an abandoned bunny many years ago and Oliver was left in his cage by a pet store. He was beautiful & healthy, no neglect at all. What a character he was.

Gracie (Hazel), Sophie (Sassy) and Honey (Tara)

My sister and I were drawn to the SPCA website and found little Hazel (now Gracie) and came to take a look at her. After filling out the adoption form for her my attention was also drawn to a thin little girl Sassy (now Sophie) and was okay'd to add her to my adoption form. My sister was visiting from the United States and fell in love with Tara (now Honey) who was a wonderful girl in need of some time and attention. We were okay'd for our adoptions, but my sister had to go back to the States before Tara was ready to go and Tara was also afraid of the car. Thanks to the wonderful staff and my constant visits Tara was released to me and I am pleased to report that she and I drove to the United States (with out any problem) this past weekend where my sister was reunited with the dog she fell in love with. My mother came to take Gracie for day trips (as I had three dogs in my house), then it was an overnight, then my mother took her to her vet for Gracie's shots and the two of them have been inseperable every since. My mother is a widow and lost her own pug late last year. Sophie, I am pleased to announce has gained three pounds and settling in to our family with her exuberant personality. Thanks so much to the staff of the SPCA for all their kindness and support with these three dogs...especially Honey. My Mom, my sister and myself all lost our dogs in the past few months and these three dogs are doing well in homes where they are loved.

Nikki (Trinity)

...

I adopted Nikki (formerly Trinity) from your shelter in March of this year. She is doing VERY well,
and I wanted to share a couple of pictures at a cottage in July.
She loves to swim, loves people, other dogs and has become my best friend for sure.
Thank you for letting us have Nikki to love.

Malcolm and Seeley (aka Sammy and Dante )

We adopted two littermates just over a month ago. Their shelter names were Sammy (and orange and white tabby) and Dante (a brown tabby) and they came to us through Ancaster Petsmart. They are now Malcolm and Seeley. We didn’t PLAN on kittens. Really. But they were so busy and friendly and seem to like us that they just needed to come home. Within hours we knew they were the perfect kittens for us. They are busy and curious – as most kittens are. But they loved to be talked to, and cuddled too. They purr at the drop of a skritch. They seem very intelligent, having learned some simple commands, like “up” and “no”. Though, no is a bit of a challenge. Every day they run to welcome us home from work, begging to be picked up. When we had a truly nasty family health crisis, there they were to be lovely affectionate clowns at the end of several stressful days. They are just about too cute to live and treat us to the most amazing gymnastics and games. We have owned cats for many years, and these are wonderful little guys. Most of all, we are so glad we got kittens. After many years of geriatric cats, they are a delight.

Max

...

I just wanted you to know that Alex (renamed Max) is really doing well and enjoying his forever home. He is very affectionate; he gives us tons of kisses and likes to cuddle. He settled in very quickly and, over the course of the last month and a bit, he has been winning over our other cat Ollie.
I think that Ollie has finally accepted Max, as they are able to sleep close together on the same bed and eat side-by-side without any fuss.
Max purrs non-stop… so it seems he is quite happy to have a home, and we are quite happy to have him!

Cheers,

Thumper

....

We welcomed Thumper into our home in February 2009. He had a playmate for a short time. Our 15 year old cat Spooky was only with us for two weeks after Thumper’s arrival, before his sudden passing of old age. Both had no issues with each other from the start. Spooky at that time had gone blind but he tried to find the hopping noise and sniffed him out. For the first four months Thumper spent all his time indoors. Now that the nice weather is here and his outdoor cage is finished, he spends his days outside and his nights in the house with us. He has a wonderful and playful personality. He has a bunch of rags that he likes to move around his cage and fluff up for his naps. He was originally thought to be an Albino Flemish Giant, but his ears and nose are slowly turning a very light grey. He is now a year and a half. It appears he may have a little brown (wild) admirer that likes to sit outside his cage. But when I tried to introduce them, she was scared away. Or, playing hard to get. The “pffting” noise she made makes me believe she was scared. LOL Thank you for your help in providing us with such a wonderful addition to our home.

Yours very truly,

Andrea Clifford

Sam

...

We were looking for an addition to our family and found our special little friend waiting for us at the Spca. We adopted Samson (Sam) in March 2007. At the time he was 6 yrs. old. Sam is very laid back and loves to be loved. He has his own basket with baby blankets but loves to sleep in the bed with us. Right between us! sharing a pillow with his Dad! His daily routine is waking his Mom up at 6.a.m. daily to fill his food dish then he proceeds to watch the chipmunks and squirrels that we feed for his entertainment. Afternoon is naps and a bit of play followed by evening critter watching in the backyard. He is the best cat we have ever had! Everyone who meets Sam remembers him. We are currently viewing older cats again at the spca to find a buddy for our best buddy.

Tucker

Thank you Brantford SPCA for placing Tucker in the Burlington PetSmart. I ran into PetSmart on my lunch to pick up food and litter for my other cats. I don't normally go over to the adoption section but on this day something told me to go over there. Tucker who was named Tommy on the tag was the first cat I saw and fell in love with him. My partner and I kept his name as Tommy before we were told that was his brothers name. Tommy has been right at home since we opened the box and has made best friends with our cat Duddley. Tommy and Duddley chase each other up and down the stairs and even pass the ball back and forth like they're playing soccer. Tommy has only been here a couple of days, but it seems like he has been here forever. I'm proud to let you know that Tommy has found a happy and loving home.

Mia

Hey SPCA! my name was Mia and you guys rescued me one day and ever since you guys found me I have never been happier puppy! When I was staying with you guys, you took great care for me and showed me love. My new mommy Arrin adopted me for about a year now and we have been best friends ever since we first saw eachother.. it was like we were meant to be best pals from the beginning. We sleep, eat play and do everyting together. When she first took me in she changed my name to jewels. She calls me her little jewelsy baby. I would never do anyting to hurt my mommy and she would never do anything to hurt me. We even have our own song. It's called world's greatest. I love her with all my heart and i would never change anything about her for the world; thanks so much for everything SPCA!

Sudu

Hi

HI, Sudu a.k.a. Hollywood is doing great one year after we adopted him.He has had his annual check up and the Vet has passed him with flying colours. He loves to play, specially with the toilet paper and our boxes of kleenex which have to be kept away from him .Otherwise its strewn all over the house. He also loves to hide behind furniture and pounce on us as we pass. Another favorite pass time of Sudu's is to check out all our shopping. He likes anything made of rubber other than his toys. Our erasers, pencils and pens plus my reading glasses have been stolen and hidden under the couch. My daughter calls him 'mallie' which means younger brother. Sudu with all his antics brings a smile to our face......always!!!

Sadie

Dear SPCA Staff ,

My family and I recently adopted a dog from your shelter and we wanted to let you know how she was doing. She came to us with the name Millie, but has since been renamed Sadie. She’s a very typical lab. Full of energy and loves to cuddle. She is adjusting well to her new home. She especially likes going for long walks and playing fetch in the yard with her toys. She has the funniest personality and is so incredibly smart. Within hours of being home on the first day, she showed us the bag of tricks she had, and needless to say it was quite impressive. The only one that wasn’t impressive was her affinity for digging in the garden, but were working on that one ?. We wanted to take this chance to Thank You for taking good care of her while she was at your shelter, and for letting us take her home to be a part of our family.

Sincerely, Sadie and the Scroop Family

Lucy

We were searching for just the right dog, we spoke to some breeders, visited some kennels. We just could not decide... So we thought a quick trip to the S.P.C.A. wouldn't hurt, while we were trying to think what dog we wanted. Well our first visit we were very surprised to find the exact dog we wanted! Blossom (now Lucy) We have had Lucy since October 07, and we are so happy with her. She was rough looking when we got her, and smelly. But she cleaned up pretty good. We will always go to the S.P.C.A. to get our next dogs/cats. It was a very happy and positive experience! The before and after photos say it all!

Celeste

Hi Everyone, Just writing to let you know that Celeste (her new name is Leah!) is doing great! She has already lost a ton of weight, her coat looks so much better, her dandruff is going away and she's just FULL of energy. Are you sure she's 2 years old? She's acting SO much like a kitten! We took her to the vet for her rabies shot, etc and found out she had worms, so she was treated for that and it's all cleared up now. Her and my 6 year old black cat Magic are getting along great now, and even in the beginning there was no real fighting, just a bit of hissing and swatting here and there. Leah is definitely the boss though, Magic is a very laid back cat so I don't think he really minds being bossed around! I've caught her bathing him once or twice, and I've seen them sleeping together a few times too.....she rubs against him every morning when they get up, so they're pretty good buddies!

I still can't believe that Leah was in the shelter for as long as she was, she's such a great cat! She has only ever scratched her scratching post, she's got such a wonderful outgoing personality and is SO affectionate! She's great with my 5 month old daughter too.

Her favourite things to play with are balled up pieces of paper, and those little toy mice.....she carries them around with her everywhere meowing away, and then drops them at our feet so that we can throw them for her. She's a huge ball of energy! She also constantly chases her tail, around and around in circles on the kitchen floor! So just letting you all know that she has settled in wonderfully, we love her so much and she's a great companion for Magic (he was also adopted from the Brant Country SPCA 6 years ago!). Thanks so much! We'll keep you updated.

Mojo

Hello to everyone at the Brantford SPCA,
We wanted to share with you a wonderful success story! In June of 2008 we lost our dear Reef, a lovely 8 year old brown tabby. We moved into a new house and on his first day there he was chased away by a neighbourhood dog. We searched all over for him, made posters, asked neighbours and contacted animal shelters. After several months without any sign of his return we started to inquire about adopting a new friend from the SPCA. We spent weeks trying to find a new companion, and we found him at the Brantford SPCA. Mojo (now named Leo) has become a precious addition to our family. He has a wonderful personality! He is full of energy, very curious and in no way hides his love for his family offering lots of kisses! We have had Leo for just over 6 months and we are so happy with him! At the end of November we were astounded to see that sitting out on the front steps of our home was our long lost Reef! After 5 and a half months he had returned to us!! It was a miracle!! Once Reef had received a clean bill of health from the vet it was time for Leo and Reef to meet. We were worried that they may not get along. Slowly we introduced the two of them and as time has passed, well I'll let the pictures speak for themselves....needless to say the two are great friends! We wanted to share this story with everyone! We wanted to remind people that they should never ever give up on the hope of a lost pet returning home! They are little miracles!
Sincerely,

The Robinson-DeRosse Family

JD

JD came into our lives late November 2008, he stole our hearts the minute we'd seen him and he continues to do so everyday. He is full of energy and a great big suck. He'd much rather have his belly rubbed than eat a steak. Everything we do, he does too. When we eat, so does he. When we go to bed, he follows. JD is a clown, he just LOVES to make us laugh and he does everyday. He loves to chase the birds and the cats that sneak into our yard and loves sitting on the deck keeping his watch on the the horses. I can't thank all the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Brantford SPCA that helped us during the adoption process. As well as everyone who gave him a pat or a smile. All the TLC the animals receive really pays off. JD has so much love to give we just can't get enough. We can't imagine life without our JD!

PS. I really can't tell all the staff that helps these animals how significant the love you give the animals is. I could tell by the way JD coward when we played at the beginning that he'd been through a few traumatic events. I feel if he wasn't loved as much as he was at the SPCA the challenge of bringing him home would have been hard. It only took a week or so for him to realize he was home. The staff and volunteers work miracles everyday, THANK YOU!

Penny

Just to let you know that Penny is doing very well and adjusting nicely to her home. I will send photos at a later date. She's a little slow at learning her name but is progressing in that department. She soon discovered what catnip is and loves it and is very good about using her scratching post, after a few harsh NO on the furniture and taking her to the post. She is a reminder of our other cat, Shadow, who passed away last February due to illness. Penny likes to "flop over" every time we rub her belly and enjoys being brushed. She is not quite the lap cat, yet. We are working with her in that area. Although, the first night she was here, she was all over us. After I released her from her carrier the first day, she bolted upstairs, underneath the bed and little did I know that our other cat was there. Amazing, no confrontation and she spent a good portion of the day exploring her new surroundings. The other cat has taken a liking to her so now we are waiting for them to cuddle. At least we have harmony between the two. Penny loves the lazer toy and bounces around getting lots of exercise as well as the cat dancer toy. She has a cute little meow and a loud purr. She's nervous though about sudden movements but I think in time, that will go away. We took her for her rabies shot and (1) did not want to go into the carrier and (2) jumped in with the other cat, in his carrier. I wasn't there though, I had to work, wish I would have seen it though. My husband said it was quite the sight to see. I hope others will consider adopting an older cat, Penny is about 1-2 and who ever brought her in certainly missed out on a wonderful pet. Thanks to the shelter for their wonderful caring work they do for the animals. God Bless you & the animals.

Gloria

Hello, I adopted Gloria last week, and I thought I'd let you know she's doing very well. My 4 yr old cat accepted her as a friend in less than a day... It's such a relief to see them playing together. I was so worried my older cat was too lonely just living here with me. Gloria is extremely good-natured. No one can get over how peaceful she is :) Thank you for our new friend!!

Shaulaine Choo

Hara (Emma)

We would like to thank you Brantford SPCA... we got Emma now Hara in August 2008. She is a wonderful dog, we loved her the moment we layed our eyes on her. She has been everywhere with us, for example Tobemory where we went to our friend's cottage, she enjoyed playing in the lake and going on long hikes with us then passing out around the fire at night. She gets along great with our cats Leo and Winn-Dixie, that we also got at the Brantford SPCA. Hara is an awesome dog, everyone she meets falls in love with her because she is a very friendly dog. Thank you!

Lily and Heather

Lily and Heather (Leslie) were adopted as sisters in September. Since being adopted, they have been so loved, and flourished into beautiful cats with wonderful personalities. Heather is a gorgeous soft princess who is very calm, gentle and very loving toward her family. Lily is a bright-eyed beauty who is very chatty, spunky and always filled with so much life to cheer up those around her. As sisters, we felt it was important to keep them together as they have gone through so much together and have developed a strong bond. Today, Heather still likes to take care of her little sister, Lily, by cleaning her. Lily shows that she loves and depends on her bigger sister even in a well-supported environment. Keeping the sisters together was the best thing we could have ever done. They just celebrated their first Christmas and got lots of treats and new toys! We couldn’t ask for a better addition to the family as they have added so much light, love and care to our lives. It is hard to imagine that they were once neglected as they are so precious and give so much love to us. They bring so many smiles, laughs and happiness to us everyday. Lily and Heather will also be supporting a cage at the SPCA with hopes that other kitten friends will find the happiness they have today. Thank you Brant SPCA for caring for Lily and Heather and giving us these precious spirits to our family! :)

Janet, Larry, Lindsay & Alyson

Ralph

Ralph (formally Mathew) would like to wish all the staff and volunteers at the shelter a very merry Christmas and a happy new year, and to let you know that he is doing well and enjoying his new home. I adopted Ralph a little over a month ago, but it seems like he has been a part of the family forever. He loves to sit on my shoulder and ride around the house, and his favourite treat is shreddies. It still amazes me the amount of people who still think of rats as dirty animals, I do my best to tell as many people as I can what clean and loving pets rats can truly be.

Rick

Cora

Dear Brant County SPCA,
We would like to share our success story with you... Cora (previously named Summer) was adopted in late January 2008. She is a wonderful addition to our household. Throughout the past year Cora has developed unbreakable bonds with her two owners Amanda and Elizabeth, as well as our two other roommates. We all love her very much. Although, we have come to the conclusion that this little cat acts more like a puppy! She fetches a ball, drinks out of the toilet and loves to give kisses. She is also quite the chatterbox and fits in perfectly with four university students. Cora also enjoys playing with her brother Jack (a 6 yr old bunny rabbit). They get along great! She has about 10 babies (stuffed animals) which she carries around and bathes as if they were her own kittens. She is such a sweetheart. Cora's kind spirit and sassy personality has won over the hearts of many. She truely is one of a kind! Thank you so much for giving us this wonderful opportunity. We wish you and all the animals a wonderful christmas holiday and happy new year!

Best wishes from, Elizabeth Hofmann, Amanda Deplancke & Cora

Bonnie

Hello SPCA staff,
We wanted to let you know how Bonnie is doing. She has made herself at home, after taking about a week to explore the entire house. Bonnie is very playful, and we are having fun pulling strings for her to chase all around the house! Our older cat is still very playful also, and they will often both chase after the same string. We have discovered that Bonnie is part kangaroo and part meerkat as well as being an adorable feline! Bonnie is a very sweet cat, but also very quiet. She has only meowed 3 times since her arrival, but she purrs almost all the time. We are all in love with Bonnie, and our older cat, Bobo, is getting used to her as well. (Even though her kangaroo hopping freaks him out a little!) Thank you for taking care of Bonnie for such a long time so that we had the opportunity to adopt her. She is a loving and adorable cat.

Sincerely Tracy, Chris, Duncan and Miriam Levett.

Spot & Davy

Hello Brantford SPCA,
Thanks for all the great work you do! I adopted two rabbits from the Brantford SPCA in October 2008. It was love at first sight when my partner and I spotted Monty Bear (white) and Nigel Nibbles (spots). Their shelter names were Davey and Spot. We originally came in to adopt Monty after our old rabbit Harriet died, but when we saw the both of them we knew that they had to come home with us together. They have settled in nicely, and we are enjoying every moment with them. They are such sweet, beautiful, gentle animals – who couldn’t love them? Lots has changed since they were adopted. Nigel has grown more spots and Monty’s ears and nose have turned grey. They are now friends, too. We carefully bonded them over a couple of weeks, and now they are very happy when we let them out together. Nigel is especially in love with Monty – he loves to groom him and snuggle with him. It is amazing how two bunnies can have such different personalities. Nigel is very easy-going, and he does what we call “stop, drop, and pat.” He loves pats so much that any time you go to pat him, he flops down flat on the floor with his ears back to accept the pats. Monty only likes pats when he is in his house or under the chair. Sometimes he lets mum pat him in the evening if he is feeling relaxed. Nigel loves to binky around when we let him out. He is so full of joy! Monty is a bit more relaxed (perhaps he is older?) but he still does his share of binkies. Monty loves to nudge and kiss us with his bunny nose, and sniff us when we lie down on the floor with him. Both rabbits love parsley, timothy hay, and apples. They are hilarious in the morning when we give them apples: Monty stretches out like he’s doing yoga, and Nigel zooms around his house, jumping and knocking things over. They are definitely used to their routine, and know when food is coming! Thank you, Brantford SPCA, for taking care of our bunnies until they could find their forever home with us! We love Nigel and Monty very much!

Dmitry

I adopted Dmitry (previously known as Mufasa) in August of 2008. Dmitry has been a wonderful addition to not only my life, but the life of my family. His loving and laid-back demeanour has made him very easy to cuddle with. Of course, he is still very vocal and loves to meow up a storm, especially when he wants everyone to play with him! He loves to find cozy little areas to rest in, even if it means laying flat across my clothes I plan to wear for the day....

He has such a great personality and impresses anyone he meets. Thanks so much for providing me with a cat that is so perfect for me :-)

Shane

We wanted to write to you and thank you for matching us up with Shane. It only took him a couple of hours before he felt at home and he and our dog Scrapper have become good friends. Shane is a great new member of our family, he loves to play and have fun. Thank you for caring for him till we met him.

Aussie

Aussie, or as we refer to her, the Princess because she is absolutely spoiled, was adopted on April 11,2008, and is now approximately ten months old. We discovered her at the SPCA and automatically fell in love with her. She quickly became apart of the family going from the puppy terrified of cats, to being the outgoing puppy who loves to terrorize her little brothers, Harley, and the late Chevy. The princess loves to go for rides in the truck, sitting in her own seat, and she loves her babies, and only has about ten of them. She also loves to be the centre of attention, as well as her snuggle time with her mommy. She is a typical daughter and sister, who sasses back at her parents, sasses with me, her big sister, wrestles with her big brother, and terrorizes her other big brother. I would like to thank the volunteers at the Brantford SPCA for taking their time to care for and take in animals such as Aussie. If it was not for them I would probably still be scared of dogs, and I would have never been able to find this amazing animal that I now call my little sister. In the future, I look forward to adopting many other animals from the SPCA. As well, I look forward to donating my birthday money for the items that the SPCA needs so they continue helping families find their next daughter, son, brother, or sister.

Thank you once again. - Brittany and the Kitchen Family

Bentley

Hello. I have been meaning to do this for a long time and today, finally, I am getting around to it. Back on New Year’s Eve, 2003 we adopted Bentley, a black and white border collie/black lab. The kids, ages 11, 7, 5 and 9 months, all loved him. He walked well on a leash, he sat and laid down when told. He could even shake a paw. We couldn’t say no to him and we took him home with us. It turns out that he was housebroken and we found out in the next couple of days that he had another talent – he could run like the wind. The problem was, he wouldn’t stay home. Out the door and gone. I suppose this could be how an otherwise well behaved dog ended up with the Brantford SPCA. We had to resort to a lawn spike and long chain for him because he always wanted to be outside.
We had a contact with a man who competed beagles in tracking or something. He lent us a collar and remote. I know this sounds mean, but we knew it was a choice of this or burying Bentley after he got hit by a car. He seemed totally oblivious to traffic as he was running away from us, and once, my 11 year old daughter was almost witness to his demise in this manner – thank goodness for quick reflexes on the part of the driver. Nonetheless, this solved the problem of running. When we were outside with him, he would stay with us and we knew he was safe. We only used the zapper 3 times. He wore a dummy collar for about 6 months afterwards. At this point, he still couldn’t be let out in the yard without being tied up which was less than ideal.
We have since purchased a wireless boundary system and Bentley is ecstatic. He is the dog of the neighbourhood now. He can’t get to a traffic area, he is fed treats regularly by the neighbours and has the run of our property, about a 100 foot diameter circle. This is the best investment we ever made for him. When we go away for the day (in summer), he has water, food and shelter and he isn’t locked in the house. He won’t cross the line for anything, and believe me we’ve tested him.
Bentley loves the kids and they all love him. Our baby (he’s 6 now) used to pull his tail, his ears, and even grabbed his ________ once. That last one received the most serious response, a nudge with the nose and a departure. His downfall is his love for socks and gloves. He doesn’t chew them; he simply carries them from bedrooms and leaves them in the basement family room. On any given day, we can be assured of finding 3-5 socks in the basement.
Anyway, he is part of the family and we are so glad that the SPCA was there to look after Bentley until he found his home. I have attached several pictures of Bentley, some recent, some a little older.

Benny

We adopted Benny, the yellow lab, when he was 14 months old, from your shelter. That was about nine years ago. I had posted Benny's Story on your website but can't find it, guess time means you have to bump some of the older stories. We want to again thank you for Benny, for the happiness he has brought to our lives and to the lives of all who know him.

Benny will be 10 years old this December. He has been the most wonderful companian, funny guy, house manager, pal to Joker, (adopted from previous owner also at one year old, he is nine next month).

But his health has been precarious, may be from too much inbreeding by the so called breeder where he was born. He is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. Joker has had a series of health matters too, but his health is perfect, its all the bangs and scratches and broken leg he manages to inflict on our bank account. He ran over a tree on the ground and now has a steel plate in his knee. Imagine the cost of that!!
Ben is a big guy, big chest, and body, short legs, huge head. He has asthma, seasonal allergies, is hypothyroid, and has numerous other health problems. I could have paid off my mortgage by now for the money that 's gone to the veterinary care.

In spite of all that, we adore him, are absolutely thankful he was at your shelter when we came to look for a dog to adopt. He has been such a blessing for us. We adopted Joker, a year later, and Ben and Joker are great pals, Ben is top dog, Joker agreed. Both are neutered of course.

Thank you Brantford SPCA for Benny, and the laughter and happiness he brought into our lives.

They have cost us piles of money for their care, health matters and so on, and everything we decide to do, we have to consider them, I hope people know how much responsibility it takes to have a dog. Its like having a four year old child for 10-15 years.

We recently adopted a 16 year old budgie as well who carries on amazingly loudly when he hears something of interest on the TV.

Matty and Oatmeal

Hello, I just wanted to give an update as to how our two babies, Matty and Oatmeal are doing. We adopted Matty after we saw him on the SPCA website and immediately fell in love. He is such a wonderful guy and always waits for us at the top of the stairs to come home from work. He is our little guard cat and loves to be around people. We knew however something was missing and Matty needed a friend. Last November we adopted Oatmeal and boy is she a handful! Matty and Oatmeal are always getting in trouble, trying to play with everything in sight. Oatmeal is such a wonderful little cat and loves to cuddle in her favourite blue blanket. We could not imagine our life without these two wonderful creatures. Adopting our two cats was the best decision we could have made and we would encourage all responsible, future pet owners to visit the animals at the SPCA because you are sure to fall in love with one of them, like we did.

Stella

Thank you so much for all of your help adopting our new kitten. We adopted our very first pet as a couple, and we couldn't have selected a better kitten. Stella is so playful and curious - she keeps us laughing. She loves to play with things that crinkle or chime. We think it's so cute how she meows to us when she loses her toys under the couch, or when she wakes us up for breakfast every morning. It's so interesting to watch her own little personality develop. Stella has settled into our home very nicely. She's healthy and growing up (too quickly really), and we're so thankful for her. We're having a great time being pet parents.

Thank you for everything, Steve & Danielle

Indy

Indy wants to say Hi to everyone and especially his sister Rosy! (see August 2007) Indy too was adopted in Dec. 2004 but fortunately for us, the first family returned him so we were lucky enough to adopt him in Jan. 05. Indy gets along well with his cat brother has made his way into our hearts and many others. Indy loves going for runs and walks and always needs to be the greeter at the leash free park. We are often asked what kind of breed he is and get the same haven't seen one before response. At least we know that one of his family is out there! p.s. Happy 4th Birthday Rosy

P. & L. D'Aloisio

Lovey

We adopted Lovey (named by shelter staff) in December of 2002. She was a four-year old doberman/collie cross, and was the light of our lives for the four short years we had her. She was a fabulous traveler, going to Algonquin Park with us several times a year. She kept us active and happy, and got along very well with our two cats - Stanley, a stray we took in as a kitten, and Oliver, previously named 'Houdini' when he was adopted from the shelter in 2000. Lovey became ill in August 2006, and passed away that September. My husband and I will never forget coming back to our home that first day...neither of us could bear putting away her bed or her toys, her food and water dishes. There were memories of her all over our home. Now over two years after her death, we think of her often, but with far less sadness, and the peace of mind that we gave her a very loving home. She was rarely away from us for long, but would often be brought to one of the 'grandparents' homes to be babysat and spoiled. She turned from a shy dog into a confident one who truly believed the home she lived in was hers. (She had the intelligence to spot the piece of cheese our 2 year old nephew would carry around, but the sweet temperament to take it from him in such a gentle manner that he hardly knew it was gone.) We loved her, and still miss her, and I just wanted to thank those at the Brantford SPCA for rescuing the animals that have the potential to bring such a great amount of happiness to a family - especially that stray dobie/collie mix that was found wandering early in the fall of 2002. Thank you for all you do, and for enduring the heartbreak you face every day. Please know that you are making a difference.

Aimee & Mike McGregor

Kenny

Kenny! (was Kenton) Here are a few photos (from the many we have taken already!). I loved Kenny from the moment I laid eyes on him, on the website. But we had to wait over a month to make sure the relocation of our very dominant female cat was going to work out (in case we had to bring her back to us) before we could even take a chance on meeting him. We are really happy that we were lucky enough he was still available and that we were able to bring him home with us. We marvelled as our other two, rather timid female cats welcomed Kenny. Within two weeks they were all playing together, chasing each other all over the house and sharing beds and toys. Kenny is a huge (15.5 lbs according the vet, and he isn't yet full-grown!) polydactyl fellow. He has six full toes on both front feet and five full toes on both back feet, giving him a total of four extra toes. He's beginning to trust me enough to allow me to handle his feet so we can make sure all those toes and claws stay trimmed and healthy. He is magnificent! He's very clean and spends a lot of time grooming, and his coat is now glossy and feels like satin. His huge golden eyes are mellow and tolerant – his temperament is fantastic. He loves to play and I've unstuck him from the window screens a few times already (he loves to jump after insects crawling up the windows). The two girls are teaching him how to use the scratching post, and he's starting to learn what "no" means when I interrupt him as he tries to sharpen up all those claws on my favourite chair. Kenny is approximately two years old and he is the first adult cat we have adopted. I urge anyone considering adopting a cat, to seriously consider the older cats. These cats love to play as much as kittens do, and their personalities are developed enough that you know to a certain degree what you are getting. And, it's as if they know how lucky they are to have a loving home. Kenny is immensely affectionate. Our neighbour describes him as "awesome". Thank you, SPCA and foster homes, for looking after Kenny until we could bring him into our life. I'm looking forward to seeing how big he gets when he is full-grown!

Wilbur Update

Where do I begin to tell you the story of this wonderful year with Wilbur. We brought him home July 26/07 and from that day on life has been an adventure. He was well loved from day one by us and it took Wilbur a while to give that love back. He is mischievious, curious, playful, naughty, also a little stubborn (cough cough). There is absolutely nothing or no place that Wilbur hasn't explored in the apartment from knocking down paper towels from the shelf in the closet to getting into all the cupboards and closets. We wake up every morning to him opening up the TV stand and sending the remote controls flying or else he likes to rub his face in our hair and sometimes gets carried away and gives us a love bite. The ladies in the laundry room are always asking about Wilbur and what his newest bit of mischief is and one told me she thought that Wilbur was lucky to have us, I had to correct her and tell her that we were the ones that were lucky to have Wilbur and we are. Wilbur has his own fan club they are the ladies that wait for the bus across the road from us and when Wilbur is watching from the air conditioner they call and wave to him from across the street. He helps with the dishes, making the bed is one of his favorite things but doesn't like the vacuum cleaner. What joy was brought to us by your efforts Brantford SPCA in taking him in and caring for him we cannot thank you enough.

Finnigan

Hi We adopted Finnigan about 7 years ago. Purebred Himmilayan. It certainly took some time for him to realize that he was not boss Kitty. Our 20 pounder, Cecil, literally was afraid of Finnie who was all fluff. Eventually, after much time passed harmony reigned in the household. He is a wonderful cat and has his morning routine in which he waits outside the bathroom door while my hubby showers, then he is let in for his ear tickle. He doesn't do this trick for me. He is the officical greeter. It used to be our little Shadow's "job" but she sadly has passed away. After Shadow passed away, Finnigan had picked up the one trait Shadow liked to do and that was put his nose into the refrigerator, almost like Shadow's Spirit coming back through him, same with sniffing my hubby's slippers. Finnigan & Cecil are not buddy buddy, they tolerate one another and occasionally, they'll play tippy-tap. I wish I could take them all. Whoever surrendered Finnigan for whatever reason, thank you.

Leo

We want to thank the staff of the Brantford SPCA for allowing us to adopt Leman now Leo. He is a wonderful cat, he enjoys playing with his mouse and cuddling on the couch. Then we decided to get Emily now Winn-Dixie because we thought Leo was lonely during the day when were at work and school. Leo didn't like Winn-Dixie that much but then after a couple of months he truly does love her they love running down the hallway late at night running after each other and playing.

Thank you so much,
The Hazell Family

Sudu

Sudhu a.k.a Hollywood is doing great.Petted and spoiled by all of us. Here are some photographs of him taken around the house.

Bella

Hi We adopted Bella about a month ago and couldn't have been happier. She has found her forever home and we love her dearly. The first day we had her she was still recovering from her surgery and very lazy. After a couple of days she was full of life and always excited to see us and play. She fits into our family very nicely, whether we want to go out for a long walk or stay at home and relax. She will follow whatever you want. I just want to thank the Brantford SPCA for letting us adopt Bella. She's become part of our family and enriched our lives.

Thanks again.
Martin, Nica.

Jade

We’ve had Jade for nearly 3 months now. We adopted her onFeb. 14th after deciding our family needed another furry companion after the loss of our cat Murphy who we’d had for 15 years. Jade was shy atfirst and very quiet, she seemed almost to afraid to even eat. Luckily she became much more affectionate and now doesn’t stop eating throughout the day. In a home with two teenagers Jade makes a very good alarm clock! She has a very loud meow, she uses it to call you back when you leave a room. She doesn’t like to be away from us! She’s a very silly cat, she’s afraid of the cat grass we grew for her and the bugs that she sometimes finds crawling on the floor. She loves to snuggle up on the couch and explore the house. On a few occasions, we’ve closed our doors at night only to wake up and have Jade on our beds meowing at us to wake up and pet her.. we have no idea how she gets in! Anyway, Jade is doing very well in her new home and loves every minute of it. She’s a joy to have around our home and the perfect addition to our family.

Thank you BRANTFORD SPCA for helping us to find jade

Siren

Here is a picture of Siren (we now call her Sadie) We adopted her last weekend from your shelter and everyone who has met Sadie so far has instantly fallen in love with her. She is adapting well to life in the big city and she is becoming fast friends with her big sister Lola. She has a very sweet nature and is learning things quite quickly (sometimes too smart for her own good)
I just wanted to say thank you for your dedication to helping aniimals in need, especially this one.
Sincerely Janice Andrews

Lucas and Neela

Good Afternoon, Lucas was adopted to become a companion for our black cat named Micah. He was a great choice and they soon got along. A few weeks later Micah had to be put down due to cancer. Lucas was very upset and we decided we needed a another cat to keep him company. I spent a few weeks checking in on the Brantford SPCA web site looking for the perfect cat for Lucas. Then Cindy was posted. I feel in love with her right way. We picked up Cindy that weekend. Cindy was re-named Neela, and is quite the handful. We are not sure who keeps who in-line. But they get alone very well. This picture was taken the day after Neela arrived. They have been like this since then!
Thank you,
Paige, Roman, Lucas and Neela.

Sonny/Max

Hello! I just wanted to let you know how well Sonny (now Max) is doing. My family brought him home earlier this month and he fits in perfectly! He has his own bed, has taken over the nicest chair in our living room, and has made friends with Jenny (another rescue dog). He is trying to befriend Buddy the cat, but has been less than successful so far...He's a real sweetheart, thank you so much for taking in such a nice old guy.

Gloria

Hi,I adopted Gloria last week, and I thought I'd let you know she's doing very well. My 4 yr old cat accepted her as a friend in less than a day...
It's such a relief to see them playing together. I was so worried my older cat was too lonely just living here with me.

Gloria is extremely good-natured. No one can get over how peaceful she is :)

Thank you for our new friend!!

Molly

We just wanted to send our success story for Molly, adopted December 20th, 2007 from your shelter. Molly captured our hearts from the first time we saw her at the Brantford SPCA. She was a quivering, shy girl with big brown eyes who we loved at first site. Our old dog, Taiga, passed the friendship test and she has welcomed Molly into our home. What started as a timid, nervous dog, quickly became a cheeky, mischievous (sneaking cookies from the cupboard) member of our family. We have learned to be patient with her and we can see her comfort level increasing daily (notice the pictures of her on the couch). The tail that used to hide between her legs now wags and she willingly rolls onto her back for a tummy rub. We would like to thank Molly’s foster family for taking such good care of her. We are fortunate to have found Molly and believe her role in our family was meant to be. Thank you to the Brantford SPCA.

Sincerely,
Janice, TJ, Blake Harrison, Taiga and Molly

Dozer update

Dozer is doing fantastic. He is loving the snow and being able to run around the yard and play. He is such a cuddler and his favorite thing to do at night now is to go under the blankets and sleep in the creases of my legs. Attached are a few newer pics of him. The one is of him checking out rats I got conned into adopting from a customer at the store I work at part-time. He is so intrigued by them and will watch them for hours if he could. Thanks again for everything you guys have done concerning him, he is definitely a joy to have and love.

Kim

Kitty

I just thought I would send an e-mail to let you know how my cat is doing that I adopted nearly two years ago. He used to be called Ace, but now he goes by Kitty – even though his actual new name is Stuart, he seems to think it’s Kitty. He has the most amazing personality and has so much energy. He knows his name, loves to talk and he’s always getting into something. I have to keep several cardboard boxes around the apartment, as he loves to hide and sleep inside of them. When it comes to bath time, he loves that too. He has no fear of water and usually will hop in the shower with you and loves getting his own baths. I also have to constantly refill his water dish as he loves to play in that as well. Aside from being curious and playful, he loves to cuddle and will spend hours sleeping in your arms or lap. He always comes to greet you at the door when you come in with several meows and always “flops” onto his back, begging for you to rub his belly. I don’t think I could’ve found a more perfect cat. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to adopt such an amazing and entertaining companion. I have attatched a couple of pictures of him from various points over the last two years, including one of him at the SPCA just before I took him home.

Sincerely, Jacklyn Wyatt

Abbey

Hi, my name is Abbey...you might remember me from the fall of 2007. I was adopted by the Gummerson's at thanksgiving & am so glad to have a new home.

My new family has given me a few nicknames like...leaner dog (I really like to lean against everyone), stretch (I am lot bigger than they thought I would get) , goofball (I like to play, play and play) & chewy pants (as I can even chew up a XL Kong in less than a week). They all love me so much & are always are happy to spend time with me.

I have two friends who live beside me - Scooter & Polly...we like to jump & play at the fence. I like to go on walks & love to sleep in with the family on the weekend. I have a big backyard to play in. It normally has an ice rink in the winter, but this year there was none. My owners say they could not find skates for me, but I know the real reason is that my favourite things to chew are wood, plastic, and ice.

I follow most of the rules (when I feel like it) & am really good at dinner time, getting my paws cleaned & sitting. I am working on "coming" - especially when at the park with so many cool things to sniff out & chase.

Thanks for taking such good care of me & all the other animals who deserve a good home.

Abbey Gummerson
Lab-Shepherd Cross, 14 months

Spunky

We wanted to share some news with you about "Tristan". I decided to name him Spunky because he has a lot of it! Since bringing him home December 2nd, Spunky loves to climb, and chase his toys, and his favourite spot is his cat tree at the front window. He loves to watch the cars and squirrels go by, and there is a big maple tree in front of the window so he`ll have lots of birds to watch in the spring! At first he was running around non-stop because he was still getting used to the place, but now I`m happy to say that he`s used to me now, and now loves to cuddle with me on the couch for hours. He`s a wonderful companion (I wish I had pictures!) and I truly appreciate you taking such good care of him for me before I brought him to his "forever home".

Update on Wilbur

Wilbur has been a part of our family since the end of July and we feel that we have always been to-gether. This Christmas our big tree will not go up because we know he would climb it. There will be no pointsetta plants because our curious boy would eat them, also the christmas village will not go on the mantle because he would steal it. We have solved our decorating dilemma by having Wilburs Christmas Tree, it is decorated with ornaments that will not hurt him, I am sending a picture of Wilbur and his tree to you. This lovely little fur ball is the apple of our eyes, his curiosity, his loving nature and his love for us has stolen our hearts. We thank you for caring for him all those months that you had him and to the person who named him Wilbur we thank them as we have kept his name that you gave him...... we will update you from time to time and keep up the good works Brantford SPCA you are no.1

Junebug

We adopted a dog from you this summer...originally named Curley Sue and now renamed Junebug. We just wanted to let you know that she is doing really well in her new home in Sault Ste. Marie. There's a wonderful leash-free waterside park on the river in town, and she loves to go there to play in the water, with her dog friends, and with her ball (or, even better, one of the many rocks from the river). She's adapted very well to us and she has become a loving, gentle, fun, funny member of our family.

I've attached some pictures of Junebug to share. Thanks again for doing what you do! We are so thankful to have her in our life!!!!!!

Sincerely,
Tracie, Lucas, and Junebug

Shake, Rattle, & Roll

Our story begins with a Saturday adventure from Kitchener to Hamilton to Brantford. My husband and I were in the market for a puppy. We have always turned to the SPCA for additions to our family. However, it was difficult because the majority of the dogs were coming in from New Orleans after Katrina and needed a lot of love and attention. James and I finally decided that perhaps a dog was not a suitable fit for us at that time. Therefore, we made our way back to Brantford. Since we were close to the SPCA we thought why not stop in. When we got there we noticed the cats. James and I have had cats before, but never ones that were overly friendly. James remembered seeing a kitten named “Roll” online and asked to see him. He was in a kennel with his brother and sister “Shake” and “Rattle”. James fell in love with Roll and I inquired about the other two. Shake was already spoken for, but Rattle and Roll had been waiting for a home. I asked to see Rattle, she was the sweetest black kitten…I couldn’t separate the two. That day we took Rattle and Roll home and they have been the best friends any person could have. We renamed them Pandora and Basil. They both get into their share of trouble and make us laugh almost everyday. We cannot imagine a time without them. Each has their very distinct personality, they both enjoy baths and cuddling. Pandora plays fetch and Basil loves to sleep in almost anything he can. A big thanks goes out to all the workers and volunteers at the Brantford SPCA for loving these animals so much and for taking such amazing care of them. I have never had cats so well adjusted and happy as Pandora and Basil. I truly recommend that people consider taking brothers and sisters together, you will not regret it. It takes time and dedication to nurture and comfort these wonderful creatures and we want to say thank you for all your hard work .

Love, James, Monica, Basil, & Pandora P.S. We have included some pictures of our friends

Gadget

I wanted to let you know about Gadget, our Male Chinchilla we adopted from you in August 2006. When we brought him home, we were heartbroken at the emaciated body, the unconditioned coat, and the forlorn demeanour of our little trooper. He looked exactly like the squirrel out of 'Ice Age'. We brought him home to become a companion to our other Chinchilla, Gizmo, but after a week of trial encounters, we realized that this was not going to work out. Gizmo would become very depressed after each encounter, and we decided that we did not want the possibility of Gizmo's personality changing. We purchased Gadget's cage, and set him up in it, complete with a hanging bed, a dustbath, pine shavings, and TREATS! It was apparent to us that Gadget had never had these before. With a lot of tender loving care, we have nursed Gadget back to the Chinchilla he should have been. He has filled out, his fur is a wonderful coat, and he works to attract our attention now. Previously, he would 'hide' in the cage, trying to hide. He is still afraid of my husband, and even though he is very gentle and patient with Gadget, Gadget still does not trust him, but he has conceded to allow Graeme to stroke him now. With my daughter and I, he is quite affectionate, although he still does not like to be handled too much. I think this is due to how thin he was when we brought him home, and how painful it must have been for us to pick him up. My daughter and I were discussing the two Chinchillas this week. We were noticing how different the two were in behaviour. Because Gizmo has never been abused and has always been spoilt, he is fussy about his treats (no, I don't want the dried apricot, I want the prune, no, I want the apple!) whereas Gadget takes any dried fruit he is offered. They are both so cute, now, we have the dried fruit in a bowl and we allow them to select which one they would like! We have called the treats, 'Cookies'. They are guinea pigs treats which our guinea pigs rejected, but our Chinchillas adore! Every night we get them out and shake the container. Both Chinchillas perk right up, and we start calling 'cookies' to them. They get very excited, and will wait by the door until we open it to give them the cookie. We have made a policy of not feeding them through the bars so that they don't try to bite little fingers that might get poked through. Gadget will wait by the door to take the cookie out of our fingers, and will eat it by the door now. When we first brought him home, he would take any food we gave him and run to the back of the cage to keep away from us. Now, he will actually let us stroke him while he nibbles delicately on his treat. I will send you a photograph.

Phoebe

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that Bobbie Jo the rabbit (now named Phoebe) is doing wonderfully in her new life. We adopted Phoebe last spring, and she is now litter trained and bonded with her two friends Shasta and Immy. She is also completely unafraid of our cats, whom she shoves gently out of the way if they annoy her. She is loose in our house most of the time, and looking very sleek and pretty. Phoebe and the other bunnies come with me to school (I am a teacher) about three times a week, where they have the run of my science room. Bonding the three bunnies was a project taken on by three students, who showed tremendous patience and kindness. Now the rabbits are inseparable. Thank-you for caring for Phoebe until she found her forever home.

Dougal and Malcolm

Hi our names are Dougal and Malcolm. We were adopted on May 17th 2007. Malcolm is 3 years old. Dougal is 1 year old. Our adopted family's name is Elliott. We love our new family. They are caring and loving and they like to give us treats! We are both very happy to have a new brother because we get along so well. Our favourite things to do now are sleep, eat, watch chipmunks out the window, and play with our toys. We also like a good belly rub! We are very pleased that we don't have to live> in cages anymore, but we would like to extend the warmest thank you we can to the people who lovingly took care of us before we found each other and our home. There are so many new places to explore in our house that we don't think we will be bored for years to come!

Thanks again. Love from Dougal and Malcolm Brett, Sue, Claire, and Megan
(Dougal is the brown tabby. Malcolm is smokey grey)

Rosy

I'm going to be 3 this October the 4th and was adopted by my human Mom back in Dec 2004. I know my Doggy mother was a puppy mill rescue and I came from a large litter with brothers and sisters total including me would have been 8. I'd like to know if you have had any pictures or information about my siblings and if you were successful in getting my beautiful walkerhound Mom adopted. My life is great. I live in St. Catharines, and I share my digs with an older adopted Shepard who was adopted the same day, and we get on just great. I have a great off leash park and a lot of dog friends. I have one complaint though, I have to share my bed with my human Mom when she needs to sleep at night.

I hope all my siblings were as lucky as me. thanks.....for listening Rosy

Tia

In February of 07' my girlfriend and I adopted Bella (who we now call Tia). In all of our experiences , she is the most vivacious and full of life cat we have ever met! She is extremely curious and not afraid of anything (well except the vacuum..) Unfortunetly, within the first two weeks of adopting her, she became very ill for a tiny 6 week old kitten. Luckily, through a lot of time, love and the help of a friend who happens to be a vet, we nursed her back to health. From then on, she continues to be the energetic girl we first brought home! Her best friend is our 4 year old cat, Chinook (Nookie) They play and sleep together all the time. Tia will play fetch and hide and seek and even tag with us-- we've never seen anything like her! Dispite her endless energy, she is a very affectionate and cuddly girl.We love her (and Nookie of course!) to pieces.

Sincerely, Shawn Murrin and Shannon Long

Lego and Domino's Success Story

Over a year ago after losing our dear friend Peanut,we struggled with the idea of getting another cat.It was a difficult choice that later was very rewarding .We adopted two adult male cats both 6 years >old,Lego and Domino Domino being the black and white and Lego being the brown and white. We are so in love with the new members of our family. They are warm and loving and very affectionate. The funny thing was we were going to get one single kitten but we are so happy the helpful staff pointed us to these two gems. They are both healthy and give us plenty of love and laughter. Please keep up the wonderful work you do.

Forever grateful the Rediker family

Ollie's Success Story

We brought Ollie home in early April of 2007 after searching for a dog for 5-6 months, and she was very much worth the wait. The amount of joy and happiness that she has brought to our home is endless. She is very much a puppy and loves to play. She did not take long to become a part of the family and we look forward to coming home to our pets every night. Our cat took a little longer to get used to her than we did, but he is definitely coming around. Ollie loves to lick the top of his head and stick her nose in his ears, which he doesn't seem to care for, but Ollie still gets away with it. It's to the point that our friends and family don't even come to visit us anymore. They come to play with Ollie. So you can see that she has enriched, not only our lives, but the lives around us as well. We had a little bit of a scare just recently with Ollie and we thought we might lose her. We were so devastated and didn't know what we were going to do without her. She has only been with us a short time, but she is still very much one of the family. As is turns out, she will be ok in the end. I have included a couple pictures of Ollie and our cat Rumpy to share with you all. One is Rumpy hiding from Ollie in a box. :) Thank you Brantford SPCA for all the help in finding our newest family member. With all our hearts, thank you! Jason, Carol, Ollie & Rumpy

Pepper & Kiyah

This past spring, my Boyfriend Cory & I decided it was time to get a friend for our Kitten Pepper. Pepper is very rambunctious and a constant attention seeker, we thought what better than a pal to keep her company. I visited the website to do some searching before coming into the shelter. We initially wanted to get a kitten close in age to Pepper (8 months). Cory gravitated towards the cage with 2 little ones (both were pending adoption). I then spotted this small calico cat quietly lying in the cage near by. I had noticed online that she was a Manx(with small tail rump), her name was Kerria. When I held her in my arms it was instant love. She sweetly licked my hands, arms and even face. She didn't want me to put her down..sold!, I knew she was the one for us and Pepper. When we picked her up a few (very long) days later, Pepper was not rolling out the welcome mat so to speak, but after a few days of following her around constantly and a few hisses, they became fast friends. Kiyah (previously Kerria) lives to play, bathe, sleep and eat with Pepper. Cory and I couldn't be happier with our decision to adopt from the shelter. We look very forward to a long and healthy life with our new addition.

Wilbur

Thank you Brantford SPCA.. 3 months ago we came to the difficult decision that after 18years it was time to let our Bootsie go. Missing him and not feeling quite complete my husband and myself went to Pet Smart in Hamilton and lucky us there was Wilbur..I have to tell you that adopting an older boy (maybe 1 year old) we expected an ajustment period with him...surprise..he came home in his carrier good as gold ...checked out the apartment from one end to the other...and waking up thru the night surprise of surprises he knew excactly where he belonged...that is in bed with us..His temperment is awsome, and we know that we will have a long and a happy life with him. These pictures of our first day to-gether are being sent to you so can see him and know that he will be very well loved
